    Description

On July 17, 2007, the Royal Mail - the British postal service - issued two sets of official postage stamps celebrating the phenomenal Harry Potter series of books by J.K. Rowling.  The stamps were the centerpiece of a rare moment in history, and they were the most popular commemoratives in British history.  The previous week (July 11), the fifth Harry Potter movie ("Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix") was released, and just days later at one minute past midnight on July 21, the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series was released ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows").  The stamps are the first official tribute to Harry Potter by the British government.
This set is a miniature sheet of five stamps featuring the crests of the four houses that make up Hogwarts - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin - and the crest of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
this set also includes the 7 stamps commemorating the Harry Potter books (as depicted in the picture above)
Each stamp is valid for the first-class postage rate and is inscribed "1st."  They are canceled with the official July 17, 2007, "First Day of Issue" postmarks..  The Cover features a golden embossed owl in flight.  Owls deliver the mail between wizards at Hogwarts.  The stamps feature a postmark with Harry on a broom, playing Quidditch.  Each postmark certifies the stamps as genuine first editions;  only a limited number of Covers received the official July 17, 2007, "First Day of Issue" postmarks, and no more Covers can be canceled.  The card that accompanies the Covers includes historical details about the Harry Potter books and stamps.  It makes a superb gift for any Harry Potter fan, but it is a strictly limited edition
