    Description

Selling a collection of antique turn of the century rings.  Many more coming soon - thanks for stopping by!  : )
    ABOUT:
Very special and very old cabochon natural garnet ring in a large domed shape, bezel set into an 18k gold band.  This piece dates to around the year 1800 and is entirely hand made.  I purchased this in France, it is a Napoleon era piece.  If you look at it under magnification, you can see the stone was carved by hand, as well as the band being hand wrought.  When you look at it from the side the dome is slightly oblong. Even during the last half of the 19th century, jewelers were using a lot of machinery so their work was much more regular than this, which helps us date the piece so early.
The stone is a beautiful deep red color and when it catches the light, it sends awesome little flashes of light from all the natural inclusions inside the stone.  Please note when you see the photos, these are inclusions, not cracks or damage.  There are two tiny nicks to the side of the stone that may have been done when it was carved, but the surface of the stone and the flat underside surface has no cracks.  The stone may have been repolished as it is very glossy and shiny considering age.
No hallmarks due to age. Tests at 18k, beautiful rose gold.
    SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It sits between a 9 1/2 and a 9 3/4 on my mandrel sizer, not crossing that 9 3/4 size line.  The stone measures about 13mm by 10mm, it stands about 9mm off the finger when worn (so domes up almost a centimeter).
    IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There is a slightly different color gold at the seam on one shoulder where the band meets the ring face that looks like it was welded.  Very smooth, just a slightly different color if you really study it.  No cracks to the stone. It is secure in the setting. 2 nicks to the sides of the stone that may have been done when it was hand carved.  It has a slight lean to it but again it may have been made that way.  Nothing noticeable when wearing the piece.  Some surface wear and scratches to the gold from wear over the years so please note due to age, this is not a mint condition item.
    Thanks so much for looking!
Antique box not included.  Will be sent with insurance and signature confirmation upon delivery at my cost.
