GENUINE ANTIQUE GEORGIAN ENGLISH 15K GOLD HEART DOUBLE LOCKET CHARM c1770

Description

This really special little heart-shaped double-sided locket dates from the mid Georgian period, around 1770. It's made of solid 15 carat gold, and has both its original glasses, gently rounded and that slightly magnify the contents. It hinges open easily to allow access inside, to place photos or other mementoes into the slim compartment within.
In typical Georgian style, its overall design is very simple - but look closer and you start to appreciate the quality of this period: the outer edges of both sides are perfectly formed, with a shallow rib that gently enhances its appearance as it moves, and the tiny lip at the base of each side, making it just slightly easier to open and showing the consideration taken by the maker to make it a functional piece as well as a work of art.
It's in fully working condition, with some pitting to the outer edges in line with its age, and a couple of chips to the glass, in line with its use - but overall it's in incredible condition considering its age. It's a wonderful tiny size at 26 x 16 mm overall, and
weighs 3.4 grams. The chain seen in some of the photos is a display suggestion and not included.
