Item Description
Remember when you could drill with maximum accuracy. Power through metal, wood, plastics, and more with the WEN 8 in. 5-Speed Drill Press. Don't let our compact design fool you. Between the 5 operating speeds, the 2 in. spindle travel, and the sturdy construction, you'll have way more precision than a standard handheld drill. Our 2.3 Amp induction motor features ball bearings for smooth balanced performance even at high speed. Manually set your speed to either 740, 1100, 1530, 2100, or 3140 RPM by adjusting the belt position on the 2 spindles. The easy-to-read, locking depth stop allows for accurate and repeatable drilling operations. The keyed chuck with JT33 spindle taper accepts bits ranging from 1/20 in. to 1/2 in. Dia (1.5 to 13 mm). The table bevels 45° left and right for angled drilling. The base is designed with holes for mounting onto a bench or work stand. Clamps and vises are easily mounted to the slotted table, making work-holding safe and effective. And because its a WEN product, your drill press comes backed by a 2-year warranty, a stocked inventory of replacement parts, and a helpful customer phone line. Easy to assemble and get operating. Changing speeds is fairly intuitive and the overall quality of the drill press is awesome. Great price, got to me ahead of scheduled delivery. Highly recommend this drill press if you are a hobby gunsmith like myself.

Out of the box it was easy to assemble following the instructions. After cleaning the arbor with acetone the runout was .002" which is very good. The chuck despite cleaning had .007" runout which was too high. After removal, cleaning and using a little harder mallet strikes, 2-3 times, to seat the it better the runout dropped to .002" which is very good. The table needed to be squared relative to the chuck/arbor using dial indicator, the visual method is not accurate enough. Changing speed the tension in the belt should not be too high otherwise will create vibration. Spindle return spring is too high. Toward the end of 2" travel I use two hands for control. Lower speeds around 300 rpm & less would have made it also more suitable for drilling large holes in metal drilling. To remove the chuck brochure recommends using a "ball joint separator". I am not sure one can be found suitable for the size. I used a set of special wedges purchased separately. Overall for the price it is a bargain.
