    1924
    C.D. Johnson Lumber Company
    Manary Logging Company
    Pacific Spruce Northern Railway Co.
This is a unique view from 1924 of the important issues surrounding the exploitation of a new part of the Country and an Industry in its infancy.   It is a rare glimpse of how history was made, where the money came from,  who the players were, railroads, commerce routes, turf battles, Indians, harbor development, men's visions of the future and more.....
The Pacific Spruce Company had it's beginnings during the Great War being affiliated with the  Spruce Production Division, Bureau of Aircraft Production.
    C. D. Johnson acquired the Toledo, Oregon mill and lands from the US Government in November, 1920.  Within four years the Company would have possession of over two billion board feet of timber Lincoln County, Oregon.
In the telling of this story, a unique historical perspective is revealed.  This account describes the acquisition of land, roads and mills in one of the most productive and opportune times in our short history.  It is a joy to read, and is detailed with hundreds of photos.
Shown below is the Pacific Spruce Corporation plant at Toledo, Oregon from a point on the hill to the Northeast.
