Description
This is a nice medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 14th century. The bezel is hexagonal in shape with a stepped collet that held a cabochon gem setting (now missing). From similar rings of this shape, it would most likely have contained a blue sapphire gemstone, the white plaster/cement inside would have secured it and gave the sapphire a brighter appearance. The ring is otherwise intact and in uncleaned excavated condition, it does have some wear to the lower bezel but is held firm with the cement. It is not a British find but comes from France.
